What does it take to become a good writer

In my last blog post I talked about how there is a difference between a good writer and a bad writer. Today I am going to talk about how to become a good writer because isn't that what we all want to be is a good writer. As we all know with anything you do you have to practice at it all the time to be good at it. When your practicing though don't just do it because you have to, do it because you want to.  Like Stephen king says in his book On Writing "practice is invaluable and should feel good, really not like practice at all".

Another tool to becoming a good writer is being honest about what your writing. When you are honest about what you write you will have more to talk about. If you like playing baseball and know everything about it write about it. I guarantee you that you can talk more about baseball than, what do you think about the Alabama school systems. You can always add your own twist to what ever you are writing as long as you are being honest about it.

When writing there is no need to be conservative so be bold and take chances. At the same time though make sure you feel absolutely confident about what you have written. You can't please everyone with what you write, but you need to try and please some people. In Stephen Kings book On Writing he says "Try anything you want boringly normal or outrageous. If it works fine. If it doesn't toss it". To me he is saying take chances and see if they work, but if they don't take them out of your paper. So what does it take to become a good writer? First you have to practice all the time. Second be honest about what you are writing at all times. Lastly take chances but first make sure they fit in what you are writing.

  1. I really like your blog. It was organized pretty well. I can see your view on how to become a good writer clearly. I think the second point, that is to be honest on what you are writing is the most important part for a good writer. If the essay cannot touch the writer himself, how it can leave a deep expression on readers.

  2. I absolutely agree with what you are saying. Your blog post slightly reminded me of mines. But yeah though, you are right! These are things that need to be considered if someone is attempting to better their writing skills. Also, I like how you mentioned honestly, because knowing your weaknesses can augment your strengths.

  3. Writing about something you don't believe in can actually prove to be an interesting challenge. It prompts you to think outside of your comfort zone and play the opposing role. You'd be surprised with what you come out feeling like.

  4. I agree with your blog Dakota. I like how you stated that you must be honest with yourself to become a good writer. If your not honest with yourself then you won't know what you need to work on to become a phenomenal writer. Having confidence in writing is also a great tip. Being bold is what shows your personality, but sometimes people can be to bold so be careful with that. You cannot get by in life without taking chances, so apply that to your writing and take chances. Practice makes perfect.
