There is such a thing as Good and Bad writers

In writing there is such a thing as good and bad writers. The category I would fall under is a bad writer. I know as you read this you think this person has no confidence, but I am just being honest. In the book On writing by Stephen King he says that you can become a good writer or even a great writer with hard work, dedication, and timely help. I mean how did the people we all call great writers become great writers. They worked hard at it, and I am sure somewhere down the road someone helped them become the writer they knew they could become.

In Stephen Kings book On Writing he says there is two things to become a better writer, read a lot and write a lot. This goes back to the hard work and dedication we were talking about in the last paragraph. If you do not read and write a lot you will just stay the writer you already are. The reason you read to become a better writer is to measure yourself up against other writers to see where you stand. You may also find your self adopting a style of writing that you find exciting.

To become a good writer not only do you have to find the time, but also the joy to become a good writer. Do not just write because you have to. Find a way that makes writing fun to you.Once you do this you will work harder and see the many improvements you have made. Writing is just like a sport.  If you love to play baseball you will hit off the tee for hours to improve your swing. The same goes for writing, if you want to become a better writer you first have to find the joy to write and practice at it. So find the joy to write and become a great writer not just a good writer.

  1. I think that you are completely correct that there are good writers and bad writers. The difference between the two is finding the time and dedication to develop the skill of writing. I also agree with Stephen King when he said in On Writing that in order to become a better writer people must read a lot and write a lot. I think it is very important to read a lot because it gives you examples of good and bad works of art. It also gives you an idea of your writing style.

  2. I really enjoyed reading your post, it was very inspirational. I also like how you referenced Mr. Kings book several times. You also mentioned how you even apply to these rules and strategies to yourself. Also, the baseball analogy was great, it fit perfectly into what you were discussing about practice. I agree completely though, in order to become better, you have to work at it and even compare to those who may be better.

  3. I enjoyed reading your post, it was very encouraging. Also, it was very intelligent to reference Stephen Kings book throughout your blog. I like how you told us how apply to these rules ourselves. The baseball analogy really helped me to connect to your blog and it fit perfectly into what you were talking about. I agree 100% that for you to become better at something, you have to work for it until you become almost perfect at it.

  4. Your post meant a lot to me, because I also consider myself a bad writer, whether people think otherwise. The rules to becoming a good writer is something we all should take part in and try. Practice makes perfect, and using Stephen King's book as a reference was a great idea.

  5. I agree with the other positive comments. I enjoyed your post and love how you are using the book we are reading and applying it, not only to your own writing practice, but your blog posts, as well. This is a wonderful way to develop your ideas and add supporting details to your argument.
